Poem – The Cave
Hannah grew up in the Cowichan Valley and currently attends school at West View Learning Canter. Although she started writing at a young age, this is her first publicly shared piece of work. Hannah’s writing has a visceral effect. She describes her writing as “taking readers on the equivalent of a roller coaster ride within their own bodies”. Often dark and disturbing, Hannah’s work features recurrent themes of lacking or losing control over one’s own body, the physical senses, and the intense emotion that can accompany them. Being highly sensitive, and having difficulty regulating her emotions, Hannah contends that “the senses are so beautiful but at times rather scary”. Due to her experience of extreme anxiety, Hannah’s main goal in her writing is to take control of herself through conjuring her feelings into stories and art. She hopes that her readers will enjoy, and perhaps relate to, her creative works.
